First Lancer was in action towards the end of the 2021 season, Ailsa Wates having taken over the reins. The pair sailed to victory in a BE100Open section at West Wilts (3), completing on their dressage score.

The pair then put in another good performance to complete their eventing year with a double clear and an eighth place finish in the Open Novice at Broadway (2).
